Movie Ideas

I really don't know what I want to do, but a comedy or PSA sounds like fun.

Gunther's Bad Day Final

Flash Summery

In this animation we wanted to focus on the importance of manners and having a good attitude even in a bad or aggravating situation. We felt comedy was a good theme to expresses this topic, because humor is one, and the most popular, way to get through a hard time. In Gunther’s Bad Day, the mailbox will not let Gunther have his mail once he sees Gunther is in a bad mood and just tries to take the mail. No matter how much Gunther yells and stomps his feet or pulls on the mailbox, he cannot get his mail. He only gets him mail when he uses the word “please,” instead of yelling at the mailbox, or just trying to take it. The mailbox says “why didn’t you say that in the first place?” basically saying that if he was polite and used his manners to begin with, even while having a bad day, things would have been a lot easier. After he gets his mail Gunther’s mood improves as he goes back to his house. We chose our music to best fit and showcase Gunther’s moods. In the beginning the music is slightly low key, then moves to fast angry electric guitar music during the fight scene, and then when he finally gets his mail, the music is happier in feeling. Every aspect of the animation that helps tell the story, helps to portray the meaning and lesson as well. Even while having a bad day it is important to remember to try to have a good attitude or at least be polite to others, because being irritable will only make the day worse. Having a good attitude even in a bad or aggravating situation, and not being rude to others while in a bad mood is important, because, if not, you will just make everyone around you miserable, and nothing will be fixed. Having a good attitude can make difficult situations better. Humor is one good way to get through a hard time, or get through a bad mood. You can find your own way to keep your spirits up during a bad day. While having a bad day it is important to remember to try to have a good attitude or at least be polite to others, because being grumpy will only make the day worse. Your bad mood can rub off on to others and cause them to have a bad day as well, and that is not fair to them. In Gunther’s Bad Day, Gunther learns that being grumpy never gets you anywhere and that it’s always important to remember your manners. Bad days happen and there is nothing you can do about that, but you do not have to allow those bad days to affect your attitude.

Creativity

I think I am my personally creative. I feel this class has improved my creativity, but giving me an outlet to be creative and practice being creative.

Cat Soup

1. In Cat Soup the big sister drowns due to lack of supervision. The little sister sees her sister's soul being taken away, so she goes to save her, but only gets half of her soul back. To me the animation starts being about neglect, the effects of messing with fate, and death.
2.  I liked the use of music to set the mood, the variety of view points, and the visual effects.
3. I, personally,  did not like this film at all. I would not call it bad, because it was very well done, but I did not like anything about it, except how well it was done.

Idea For Our Flash Animation

Our idea is to have a comedy, where an unusual character cannot get his/her mail out of his/her mailbox. A fight between the main character and the mail box happens in front of his/her city home.

Postcard Project

Postcard 1
This is the barn I grew up playing in, it was like a playground to me. But now it is old, falling apart, and is just unsafe to be in now. I wanted to depict how metaphorically "the sun has set" on the barn being my own personal little playground. The idea of it being a playground is now in the past. The barn is in the daytime while sky is a starry night, this is an unnatural occurrence. A slide is something you normally find in a playground not attached to a barn. It is no longer the barn I used to know and play in. We also get a sense of loneliness from the image, the barn is alone, in the dark, and surrounded by the carnage of the structures that used to be beside it.

Postcard 2
This barn is around a hundred years old and used to be surrounded by another barn and other structures that were built around the same time, but now, after all these years it is the only structure left standing.  I wanted to explore why, out of all the other structures, this specific barn is left standing. The two replicas of the barn in the background represent the structures that used to be there. The two barns in the back seem to look forward from the past to the barn in the present, representing what used to be, but is not anymore. This idea is also reinforced by the remains of the past structures on the right.

Postcard 3
I grew up in playing in this barn and it has always meant a lot to me. I use the image of this barn in a lot of my art work and have always been fascinated by it. I wanted to explore how I am, in a sense, glorifying the barn, while in reality, it is just an old barn. The barn is on a cliff overlooking the water from the clouds, as a dragon approach.  This gives it a fantasy feel, like the barn is a castle or is enchanted. The color purple is often a color associated with royalty, enhancing the idea of the barn being a castle. The barn almost seems to have a magical quality to it.

Postcard 4

This barn used to house livestock in the bottom stalls, protecting them from the element, and in the loft farmers stored hay to feed to the animals. The barn used to support life, now at around a hundred years old, the animals are gone and barn is no longer in use and is falling apart. The phrase "we all die in the end" fits the barn, in the sense that it used to support and protect life, outlasted all of the other structures around it, and now it is, in a way, dying. It has lost its purpose and now just sits as its health disintegrates. It is only a matter of time before it reaches the same fate as the structures that had the same purpose.

My Creative Process

When I start a project, I start with an idea and research how I can make that idea work. My ideas usually change throughout my process. I also always revisit my work and jump between projects, so I do not get narrow minded.
